The members of Nile were distressed this weekend to discover of the passing of one of our own, Our Dear Metal Bro Joe Payne. We have no details as yet what triggered this catastrophe, but his loss is an extensive one. Throughout Joe’s time with Nile in 2005-07, Joe was a true sibling and band member in every sense of the word. He constantly provided 110%onstage every day, had lots of positive enthusiasm, and was a brightly burning Spirit. Joe joined us at the tender age of 19, on suggestion from Kreishloff of Lecherous Nocturne. Had of an unbelievable talent beyond his years, Joe was never ever scared to deal with any of the difficulties in stepping onto the world’s phases; the extremely first challenge naturally was discovering the whole Nile set and stepping into the uncomfortably big shoes of recently departed legendary Nile bassist Jon Vesano. Just having the ability to play those tough Nile tunes on bass while doing Jon’s vocal parts was a herculean task, not to mention pulling all of it off convincingly in less than a week. Joe fearlessly stepped up, and boldly walked out on the stages all throughout Europe to assist promote the Annihilation of the Wicked album. Joe of course eliminated it from the first note, nailing the tunes with an amazing stage presence and a supernova of metal energy. It became right away clear that Metal was what Joe was born to do. The next 2 years of Exploring for AOTW were an extremely hectic time for Nile, and Joe’s fire and will to dominate never slow down, not for a single moment. On and off stage, Joe was a terrific band member, traveling companion, and good friend. The time Joe spent with us is something we will keep in mind always. Rest in Peace, Brother Joe, You are a Real Metal Warrior.
