UPS revealed today that they are buying UK-based EV start-up Arrival and buying 10,000 electric shipment vans from them in order to amaze their fleet.
We have previously reported on Arrival when they unveiled a neat-looking all-electric delivery truck and scored contracts with the Royal Mail and UPS
When first unveiling the vehicle in 2017, Arrival discussed “advanced ultra-lightweight composite materials that considerably lower the weight of the automobile, and by integrating this technology with Arrival’s custom-made hardware, including power electronic devices and motors, the cost of operating has been lowered by more than 50%.”
They state that they enhanced the optimal variety to weight ratio for inner-city shipments with battery packs enabling as much as 100 miles of variety on 3.5, 6, and 7.5-tonne trucks.
For the UPS trucks, Arrival said that they will have “a battery variety of more than 150 miles (240 kilometers).”
Earlier this month, the startup took a $100 million financial investment from Hyundai and now they are rapidly following it up with this new UPS deal.
UPS appeared to have actually liked their initial collaboration with Arrival given that they announced today that they are investing in the business and putting a big new order with them.
