SHANGHAI– The U.S. government is working to evacuate American people by air from the epidemic-stricken Chinese city of Wuhan as quickly as possible, according to people acquainted with the effort.
The operation comes as the death toll from a newly recognized coronavirus that originated in Wuhan climbs up above 40 and the variety of confirmed infections tops 1,300, with a number of the cases around the main Chinese city of 11 million individuals.
