Amazon knocked for selling Nazi propaganda, Holocaust representation in ‘Hunters’

  • On Friday, the Auschwitz Memorial’s main Twitter account tweeted that Amazon was making a profit on “selling vicious antisemitic Nazi propaganda” by selling the books of antisemite Julius Streicher.
  • See Service Insider’s homepage for more stories

The tweet determines books that were apparently for sale on numerous worldwide Amazon sites, including Amazon’s UK and German websites.

One called “Julius Streicher’s Political Testament: My Affirmation,” stays on sale on Amazon.com and Amazon.de at the time of composing, while a Spanish-language version of Streicher’s “Der Giftpilz”– the toxic mushroom– remains on sale on Amazon.com at the time of composing.

Specifically, the account criticized an imaginary chess scene in which prisoners of Auschwitz concentration camp are required to kill each other while being used as pieces in a chess video game.

The complete post read: “Auschwitz was full of horrible discomfort & suffering documented in the accounts of survivors.

His statement continued: “Why did I feel the need to produce a fictional event when there were so numerous real scaries that existed?

” If the larger philosophical question is can we ever inform stories about the Holocaust that are not documentary, I believe we can and should. ‘Hunters’, like a myriad of well-known films on the subject, does not constantly comply with literal reality in its pursuit of capturing the representational reality of the Holocaust.”

He added: “I am permanently grateful to the Auschwitz Memorial for all of the essential and important work that they do, for keeping the memory of victims and survivors like my granny, Sara Weil, alive. I think we are very much on the exact same side and working toward the exact same objectives,” he included.

The Auschwitz Memorial account on Twitter is run by Pawel Sawicki, who informed Insider in January that he utilizes the website to inform people about the Holocaust and to fight misinformation.

Speaking to BI, an Amazon representative stated: “As a bookseller, our company believe that supplying access to the composed word is necessary, including books that some might find objectionable. We take issues seriously and are listening to feedback.

” Amazon has policies governing which books can be listed for sale; we invest substantial time and resources to ensure our guidelines are followed, and remove items that do not stick to these guidelines.”
