Federal Agencies Use Cellular Phone Area Data for Migration Enforcement

WASHINGTON– The Trump administration has bought access to a commercial database that maps the movements of millions of cellular phones in America and is using it for migration and border enforcement, according to individuals familiar with the matter and files examined by The Wall Street Journal.

The location data is drawn from common mobile phone apps, consisting of those for games, weather condition and e-commerce, for which the user has granted authorization to log the phone’s place.
