President Donald Trumps administration is sending 100 border patrol consisting of some from an elite tactical system to 10 sanctuary cities, The New york city Times reported.
The move is a part of a “supercharged” arrest operation in Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, Boston, New Orleans, Detroit, and Newark from February to May.
Border Patrol officers will be helping local Migration and Customized Enforcement (ICE) officers, the Times reported.
A few of the agents released belong of elite tactical unit comparable to a SWAT group, called BORTAC. They typically conduct “high-risk operations” in “rugged and sweltering” locations along the border that include violent transgressors, The Times reported. Officials told The Times that these agents will help regional officers in sanctuary cities carry out “ordinary migration arrests.”
According to the Associated Press, sending border patrol representatives to the inner parts of the nation is “unusual.”
