Are sports in risk of breaking?
I understand: that seems like an unnecessarily provocative sentence to start a column in The Future of Everything, but come on, what do you think I do around here? Work with me. I’m not saying sports aren’t still worth playing, enjoying and shouting at the tv over. I recommend doing all of that, regularly, and particularly if you enjoy the Mets.
I simply wonder if we’re beginning to suck the life out of our video games. And sure, I’ll start by blaming technology. It’s OK, the robotics do not take it personally. (Yet.) The tech– the number-crunching data, the improved equipment, the push for precision remarkable to the human eye– is undoubtedly making athletes smarter and better It has assisted open brand-new levels of group efficiency. I wonder if sports are beginning to get too clever for our own good, to the point where the games we enjoy are ending up being less intriguing.
