HONG KONG– Chinese leader Xi Jinping is racing to restore a battered economy as he attempts to project a joined Communist Celebration and quash dissent against his authority.
A yearly legislative conclave will bring thousands of legislators and political advisers to Beijing this week, after a 2 1/2- month hold-up, and give Mr. Xi an opportunity to set out his financial goals and pivot back to sidelined priorities through the staging of China’s first significant political assembly considering that the pandemic started.
