Green Line train derails near Park Street MBTA station; service suspended nearly 6 hours

Green Line service was suspended for nearly six hours at the Park Street MBTA station after an incoming train derailed just west of the station Saturday afternoon.An MBTA representative informed NewsCenter 5 that the Green Line train was running at a slow rate of speed when it hindered at a track switch.There were five passengers aboard the train when it thwarted and nobody was injured during the derailment, according to the spokesperson.The transit authority tweeted that Green Line service was suspended in both instructions between Park Street and Boylston stations. Customers searching for service to Park Street needed to use the Orange Line or the Red Line.Shuttle buses changed inbound train service in between Park Street and Government Center and outbound train service in between Park Street and Arlington, according to the MBTA.The MBTA stated power needed to be de-energized between Arlington and Park Street so crews could complete repairs.Trains returned to frequently scheduled service just before 7 p.m. Saturday and shuttle were starting to be phased out at that time.

Shuttle buses changed incoming train service in between Park Street and Government Center and outgoing train service between Park Street and Arlington, according to the MBTA.
