Large crowd at East Peoria Walmart

UPDATE (Sunday, 1: 40 a.m.)– Despite reports of companies being identified as possible targets, there were no events in the City of Pekin.

Pekin Authorities spokesperson Billie Ingles says additional officers were contacted as a safety measure which the circumstance continues to be monitored.


UPDATE (11: 40 p.m.)– The East Peoria Cops chief says pepper balls were fired at a crowd outside of the Walmart in East Peoria when bricks were thrown towards officers.

The occurrence occurred around 10: 50 p.m. Saturday night.

The crowd likewise formed a line of shopping carts prior to the bricks being tossed, however Chief Steve Roegge said that was not a problem.

” They made the cart line and we absolutely had no issue with it as long as they were not utilizing the carts to be pressed into us, we definitely had no problem with them using the carts for making that line,” Roegge stated.

The Walmarts in East Peoria and on University and Allen Roadway in Peoria closed earlier Saturday night as protests continued throughout the country after the death of George Floyd.

A little fire was also set beyond Lowe’s at East Peoria– throughout the street from the Walmart– with the East Peoria Fire Department and officers reacting, Roegge said.

No injuries were reported in either occurrence.


EAST PEORIA (WEEK)– A large crowd has come down on the Walmart in East Peoria.

Several law enforcement agencies might be seen on different live streams from the location.
