Tonight, we follow the City of Los Angeles in enforcing a City-wide curfew from 8 p.m. to 5: 30 a.m. to ensure public safety across our region.
All Big Blue Bus service will be cancelled after 9 p.m. this night ( 5/30). Normal service will resume tomorrow (5/31).
From Santa Monica’s Chief of Authorities Cynthia Renaud on Friday, May 29
The Santa Monica Cops Department feels the strong emotions and issues that are being voiced and displayed countrywide. We share these feelings. While the death of George Floyd took place more than 1,900 miles away, the actions of every sworn officer have the potential to taint the badge many of us love. With this, our mission and dedication to the Santa Monica community is unchanged. We remain devoted to protecting our community by enhancing public security and uph olding the general public trust. SMPD believes strongly in accepting individual and collective responsibility for our oath, duty, and actions. We will continue to follow strict, unequivocal requirements of conduct in keeping with our ethical obligations while appreciating the worth of human life and self-respect.
We encourage discussion and discussion in an effort to promote freedom of speech, transparency, and to protect the layers of trust and self-confidence we have striven to take pleasure in, jointly, with our community.
The actions of the officers included are straight in dispute with the oath we have taken which is to protect and serve.
Our prayers head out to the household of George Floyd and the City of Minneapolis.
