Southwest Airlines jetliner hits and eliminates individual as it lands at Austin airport

A Southwest Airlines jetliner hit and eliminated someone as it landed at Austin’s main airport Thursday night, authorities stated.

The Federal Air travel Administration stated the pilot of Flight 1392 reported seeing a person on the runway shortly after the Boeing 737 touched down at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 8: 12 p.m. local time.

The carrier stated the pilot navigated to attempt to avoid the person, whose identify wasn’t right away released.

The driver of an airport operations automobile subsequently reported discovering the individual on the runway. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Provider said its personnel pronounced the person, an adult, dead at the scene.

The airplane taxied cab to a gate, everybody got off and no one on board was injured, Southwest stated. The aircraft was carrying 53 guests and five crew members, reports CBS News correspondent Kris Van Cleave. The airplane had taken off from Dallas’ Love Field.

CBS News got a photo of the damage to plane. It reveals damage to the left engine cowling, including a large dent on the cowling’s leading edge. A cowling is the outdoors real estate of an engine.

The runway where it occurred was closed as authorities examined but a second runway was kept open so the airport might keep operating, reports CBS Austin affiliate KEYE-TV

Austin authorities informed the station the dead individual wasn’t impersonated an airport employee and didn’t have any recognition.

The FAA said it would help Austin police in the examination of the occurrence.
