WASHINGTON– The Supreme Court on Thursday threw out a set of public-corruption convictions in the New Jersey scandal referred to as Bridgegate, ruling that a political retribution scheme to maim a town with traffic congestion didn’t constitute federal fraud.
The decision marks the end of a nearly seven-year drama that overthrew the lives of a number of assistants to previous Republican politician Gov. Chris Christie and assisted to sink the governor’s long-planned bid for the White Home.
