A number of big U.S. tech companies are moonlighting as part-time real-estate developers. China’s Tencent Holdings Ltd. is trying its hand at urban preparation.
In Shenzhen, the company wants to develop a real-estate advancement on land the size of Midtown Manhattan. The 21- million-square-foot advancement will include corporate workplaces, a school, apartment or condos, sports centers, parks and retail space, according to the project’s architect, NBBJ.
