Occasions across the country demonstration systemic bigotry
CrossFit CEO Greg Glassman apologized for an insensitive tweet about George Floyd, who died at the hands of Minneapolis police, saying that he “made a mistake by the words I chose.” That was too little too late for sports equipment maker Reebok, which said over the weekend it’s ending a collaboration with CrossFit following the tweet, while some health clubs stated they would end their affiliation with the exercise brand.
The concern started on Saturday when the Institute for Health Metrics and Examination, a proving ground, tweeted, “Racism and discrimination are critical public health issues that demand an urgent reaction,” together with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.
Glassman reacted: “It’s Floyd-19”
In another tweet, Glassman added, “Your failed design quarantined us and now you’re going to design an option to racism?”
His tweets sparked a backlash on social networks, with Twitter users composing that they found his remarks “dissentious” and “undesirable.” Michael Muscato, who owns a CrossFit fitness center and is running for U.S. Congress, wrote on Twitter that Glassman’s comments were “tone deaf” and “useless,” and urged Glassman to step down as CEO.

After Glassman’s reactions to the Institute for Health Metrics and Examination, some consumers revealed their disappointment on social media and stated they would not buy from a CrossFit fitness center.
” Our partnership with CrossFit HQ comes to an end later on this year.
” I, CrossFit HQ, and the CrossFit community will not stand for racism,” he wrote.

He added that he was “incredulous, angry, and extremely emotional” at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

Health club co-owner Nick Hurndon composed on Twitter that he sent out a letter to CrossFit ending affiliation with the brand name. The business’s action to systemic racism and authorities brutality “is entirely undesirable,” the letter said.
