Delta reportedly preparing to caution pilots of possible furlough

Delta Air Lines plans to inform over 2,500 of its pilots next week that it may need to put them on furlough, CNBC’s Leslie Josephs reported on Friday.

Around 7,900 pilots will reportedly be qualified to take an early retirement bundle, however “early retirements alone likely won’t suffice to prevent pilot furloughs entirely,” John Laughter, Delta‘s senior vice president of flight operations, stated in an internal memo, according to CNBC’s report.

Laughter supposedly stated Delta has a lot of pilots offered the low level of need for flights in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.

” Given that we won’t know the outcomes of the early-out for a couple of weeks, we must continue to move ahead to deal with pilot overstaffing,” he stated, according to CNBC.

Delta did not instantly respond to Business Insider’s demand for comment.

The airline company has a total of over 14,000 pilots, CNBC reported. American Airlines and United Airlines urged workers to take unpaid leaves of lack earlier this month.
