WASHINGTON– President Trump last week was on the edge of shooting Defense Secretary Mark Esper over their differing views of domestic use of active-duty military, before advisers and allies on Capitol Hill talked him out of it, according to a number of officials.
The officials said Mr. Trump raged with Mr. Esper for not supporting his disposition to use active-duty soldiers to quell demonstrations in Washington, D.C., Minneapolis and somewhere else following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.
