Johnnie Walker whisky will be offered in paper bottles from next year

Diageo is to present “100%plastic totally free” bottles of Johnnie Walker from next year, the current example of a significant drinks maker attempting to approach more sustainable forms of product packaging.

In a declaration Monday, the British company stated the bottle would be paper-based and “made entirely from sustainably sourced wood.”

The bottle’s development is the product of a cooperation between the drinks huge and endeavor management firm Pilot Lite, which in turn resulted in the development of a service called Pulpex Limited.

Diageo described Pulpex Limited as a “sustainable product packaging technology business” and said its paper bottle was both scalable and plastic free.

” The bottle is made from sustainably sourced pulp to fulfill food-safe requirements and will be totally recyclable in standard waste streams,” the firm, whose other brands consist of Guinness and Baileys Irish Cream, said.

In addition to bottles for Diageo, Pulpex has actually established a “partner consortium” of fast-moving durable goods, or FMCG, services. This includes PepsiCo and Unilever, who are also set to release their own items using the paper bottle innovation next year.

In the U.K., awareness of plastic pollution has been raised over the last few years by shows such as “Blue World II.” Presented by naturalist David Attenborough, the TV program highlighted the stunning impact plastic has on wildlife.

According to statistics from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, the U.K. produced 2.26 million metric lots of packaging waste from plastic in 2017, with 46.2%of this either recovered or recycled.
