McDonald’s is hitting the brakes on its United States resuming plans as the coronavirus rises across the country, the Wall Street Journal reports. The megachain provided a declaration Wednesday stating dining establishments won’t be informed to add dine-in service for the next 3 weeks. Takeout, shipment, and drive-thru service, however, can stay. “Our resiliency will be checked again,” compose Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, and Mark Salebra, head of the National Franchisee Leadership Alliance owners association. “COVID-19 cases are on the rise.” This follows partial dine-in service was enabled starting in May, with about 2,200 of America’s 14,000 areas letting customers consume inside at restricted capacity.
Now, those 2,200 restaurants can keep using dine-in service if enabled by their jurisdiction, the letter states, however planned reopenings are on pause. They also state McDonald’s employees must keep wearing masks and following social distancing rules, per CBS News The executives warned that McDonald’s will “continue to keep an eye on the circumstance and adjust as needed” if standards are ignored, CNBC notes.
