HONG KONG– Facebook Inc. and its WhatsApp messaging service, in addition to Twitter Inc., have suspended processing requests for user information from Hong Kong law-enforcement firms following China’s imposition of a national-security law on the city.
WhatsApp is “stopping briefly” such reviews “pending even more evaluation of the effect of the National Security Law, consisting of formal human-rights due diligence and consultations with human-rights specialists,” a WhatsApp spokesperson said in action to a Wall Street Journal query Monday.
