The U.S. government will pay up to $2.1 billion to Sanofi SA and GlaxoSmithKline PLC to money the development of a coronavirus vaccine and guarantee supply of 100 million dosages, if shown safe and effective in scientific trials, the companies stated Friday.
Paris-based Sanofi is leading advancement of the vaccine, the business said, and plans to start preliminary scientific trials in September and move into late-stage research studies by the end of this year.
