William H. Gates II, who raised a precocious and headstrong young guy understood as Costs Gates and later on helped the co-founder of Microsoft Corp. offer away his billions, died Monday at his beach house on Hood Canal in Washington state, the family stated.
Mr. Gates Sr. helped found what became K&L Gates, a global law company, but was far better known as the father of a billionaire software pioneer.
