In a move to counteract “violent social militias,” Facebook stated it took down multiple pages that had actually come from right-wing group Patriot Prayer and creator Joey Gibson.

Patriot Prayer is a reactionary group based in the Pacific Northwest region that regularly hosts pro-Trump rallies.

The group got national attention this week after one of its members was eliminated throughout a protest last Saturday in Portland, Oregon. The member, Aaron “Jay” Danielson, was shot during a conflict between Black Lives Matter activists and pro-Trump supporters.

Patriot Prayer rallies regularly include appearances by members of the Proud Boys, an antigovernment extremist company that was designated a hate group by the not-for-profit Southern Poverty Law.

Gibson, a conservative activist who leads the group, has been arranging pro-Trump rallies in multiple U.S. cities considering that 2016 Supporters typically come equipped to the rallies, which usually bring in a lot of attention from counter-protesters. Rallies also often result in violence and street fighting, according to the SPLC

Company spokesperson Andy Stone said Facebook got rid of the pages to avoid the spread of “violent social militias” on its website, Reuters reported Friday.

Last month, Facebook announced a growth to its “Hazardous Individuals and Organizations” policy to include “organizations and motions that have actually demonstrated significant risks to public security but do not satisfy the extensive requirements to be designated as an unsafe company and prohibited from having any presence on our platform.”

” We are taking action against Facebook Pages, Groups and Instagram accounts connected to offline anarchist groups that support violent acts amidst demonstrations, US-based militia companies and QAnon,” the business composed in a press release

Facebook did not right away return an ask for comment from Organization Expert.

Because the inception of the Patriot Prayer page in 2017 and up till it got closed down, the page reached almost 45,000 Facebook fans, Reuters reported.

It’s uncertain whether Twitter and YouTube will follow in Facebook’s steps. Patriot Prayer accounts on both platforms have 10s of thousands of followers. Neither Twitter nor YouTube instantly responded to an ask for comment from Organization Expert.
