Government Customer of John Bolton Book Describes Unprecedented White House Intervention

WASHINGTON– The government official appointed to analyze whether former national security advisor John Bolton’s book contains categorized info stated Trump administration legal representatives asked her to sign misleading statements about her review, fanning to Mr. Bolton’s claims that he was targeted for his unflattering picture of President Trump.

In a 17- page letter, a lawyer for Ellen Knight, the then-National Security Council main whose workplace conducted the evaluation, said White Home attorneys were included to an unusual degree in the review process, kept info and carried out a problematic second evaluation in what appeared to be an effort to validate a claim versus Mr. Bolton over his book.

Lawyers for Mr. Bolton submitted the letter in court on Wednesday in response to a case the Justice Department filed days prior to Mr. Bolton’s bestseller, “The Space Where It Occurred: A White Home Narrative,” went on sale in June.

” Had their concern been to produce a publishable manuscript without classified info, they most likely would have asked the professionals who had actually committed hundreds of person-hours to a painstaking evaluation of every page of the manuscript,” Ms. Knight’s lawyer, Kenneth Wainstein, wrote.

The accusations came days after district attorneys provided grand jury subpoenas to Mr. Bolton’s publisher and literary agent as part of a criminal investigation into whether Mr. Bolton mishandled classified info in his book, which passes on stories about Mr. Bolton’s time in federal government and his relationship with the president.
