Dear John: I have been battling the 900 lb gorilla referred to as American Express for the past two years. And I could use some aid.
For many years, I had an American Express gold card for individual use and a platinum AmEx card for my service.
Both cards were paid off in full every month.
At one point, my service went through some monetary difficulties, but it never impacted my AmEx account.
Months later, I was informed that AmEx was canceling my individual gold card that had a $400 credit that I needed to notify them of. But I still had my platinum card, so no concerns.
I had kept over 800,000 points, which I was saving for my other half and I to take a superior vacation.
Well, about a year after they canceled my gold card, they canceled my platinum card regardless of whatever always being paid off.
And they kept my points. That is not. Please aid. T.O.
Dear T.O.: What you stopped working to point out was that you also declared personal insolvency when your company went through some “monetary troubles.” And that, according to AmEx, was the factor it took your card away.
And that resulted in you losing your points.
Do I think that’s reasonable? No. In spite of my finest efforts, I could not get AmEx to budge.
” According to the Card Member Arrangement, American Express may cancel the Card Account upon getting notice of an individual insolvency,” the business stated. “The Business Card Account Conditions likewise provide that if American Express cancels a Card Account (for insolvency or insolvency), all membership rewards points in the account are surrendered.”
Well, there you go.
