Uber presents new feature to let riders ‘inconspicuously’ snitch on their chauffeurs

Uber upgraded its app to let riders “inconspicuously” report circumstances that may not increase to the level of an emergency but still made them feel unsafe while on a trip. The examples that Uber gives consist of “harsh braking,” “inappropriate remarks,” or a motorist who isn’t paying attention to the road. Uber introduced an in-app panic button in 2018 that lets riders contact 911 at the touch of a button. Now, riders can subtly snitch on their motorists from right in the app. Uber states the function is meant to provide riders the chance to report improper habits throughout a journey, when it’s on the top of their mind, rather than at the end of the trip.

” By getting rid of barriers to reporting security issues, our goal is to encourage more reporting which will eventually assist make the app more secure for everyone,” Uber states.

The hope, obviously, is that this new function isn’t abused by riders to report their motorists for unimportant slights, like not driving quick enough or failing to comport themselves in such a way that’s anticipated by the rider.
