Over 70 automobiles stolen from San Leandro dealer as robbery, damage hit city

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KRON)– More than 70 new vehicles were taken from the San Leandro Dodge dealership, as looting and destruction struck the city Sunday night.

The vehicle dealership says it spent a majority of the day fixing the automobiles that were left on the lot and tidying up glass from the shattered windows and doors.

The owner of the dealer states the looting started across the street at the Marina Square Shops.

Around 7: 30 individuals made their method into the dealer and by 10: 30 individuals repelled with almost $2.7 million worth of brand name brand-new cars and trucks.

Video posted to social networks shows looters burning out tires then driving brand brand-new vehicles off the lot.

” Oh it was a war zone. They came in, lastly got in here and they had tear gas and there were automobiles crashed all over. It was bad and 70 plus automobiles are missing,” Carlos Hidalgo stated.

Owner of the car dealership, Carlos Hidalgo says looters drove off with more than 70 of his cars Sunday night– Everything from trucks, Jeeps, Chargers and the expensive Dodge Challenger Hellcats.

He states looters burglarized the building, and found the essential safe.

” They drove a vehicle right out of my display room and left,” Hidalgo said.

He says the thieves then used some of the cars and trucks to exit the parking lot by ramming through automobiles blocking access to the driveway.

Now empty parking area spaces are left, representing vehicles that were taken.

” Cops was overwhelmed. They pirated all of San Leandro last night so nobody could come out so they had about 5 hours of looting inside the dealer,” Hidalgo stated.

Across the street at Marina Square, shops like Nike were likewise raided.

Looters left scattered shoe boxes across the flooring.

Crews changed the damaged windows and glass with plywood in preparation for Monday night.

” A life can not be brought back. These vehicles can be replaced and they’re insured but you understand we need to not act or respond this way.

So far the car dealership recuperated about 20 cars and trucks and to prevent this from occurring again, they’ve hired brand-new armed security to view the car dealership at night.
